Rumbamazigha grew out of Taller de Músics in 2008 as a collaboration between musicians working in Catalan rumba and Amazigh traditions.
Supported by the social-work program of Caixa Catalunya, the project brought different musical languages into the same ensemble. Melodies, rhythms, and instruments were exchanged through performance, making cultural dialogue a practical part of the music.
The musicians listed in the original announcement included Jonatan Maya “Petete,” Emili Calabuich “Miliu,” Jack Taradellas “Cjakataga,” Toni Reyes, Nacho Lopez, Radouan Zahir, Addellah Zahir, and Ali Saadi.
Their combination of guitars, banjo, violin, bass, percussion, and voices reflected the varied cultural life of Catalonia’s streets and neighborhoods. The project offered an uplifting sound built through collaboration between people who brought different musical experiences to the stage.
