Thaghrast performed at the Mawazine Festival in Rabat on 18 May 2009, following the group’s victory in the 2008 Génération Mawazine competition organized by Maroc Cultures.
The band’s set moved between Amazigh musical influences, Gnawa, Gharnati, reggae, and other styles. Tarifit lyrics remained central to the performance, while the changing rhythms drew an enthusiastic response from the audience.
The appearance marked an important step for a young band developing its own sound. The photographs preserved with this report capture Thaghrast on a stage that introduced its music to listeners beyond the Rif.
